Choosing an Estate Agent

Once you’re ready to sell your house it is time to start thinking about who you are going to get on board to help make that happen. It can be tempting to try and go it alone, but realistically the UK housing market isn’t quite there yet; because you need to be an estate agent to list on Rightmove. So, how do you go about choosing an estate agent?

Read Up on What They Offer

These days modern-day estate agents offer a range of services, including the option to do some things yourself. When it comes to the services you want your estate agent to carry out for you there is no right or wrong, but you do want to make sure you know what you’re signing up to before you commit to using them. For example, they might seem like a lower cost but you have to do your own viewings – not a problem if you’re happy to show people around your house but an issue if you live far away and need an agent to take charge of the viewings for you.

What Is Their Reputation Like?

As well as checking what they say they offer, checking their reputation is a good idea. Reading reviews, checking social media feeds and even speaking to friends and family is a good way to get started. Of course, it is unlikely that a company is going to have a 100% track record of good reviews online, because everyone has different ex[ectations, but reading these reviews will at least give you an idea of how some of their customers feel.

Meet Them

Before you sell your house it is advisable to get a handful of valuations, so you can have a firm idea of what you want to list it at. This also gives you a chance to meet the estate agents direct, see how you get on and how you would feel about working with them to sell your home. Gut instinct counts for a lot so this is a good thing to do before you commit to a certain estate agent taking over the sale of your home.

If you have any success stories when it comes to choosing an estate agent we’d love to hear them!
