Summer is well and truly over and with it comes a start to much cooler weather – this Autumn seems freezing! So we need to start considering ways to keep your house warm in winter. This is true any year, but especially with talks about how energy bills are likely to be on the rise this year.
Make Friends with Blankets
We’re big fans of blankets on the sofa in our house and this definitely helps with keeping heating bills as low as possible. A blanket across your lap during the evening means that you can put off switching on the heating a little longer – and any pets are bound to make friends with a cosy new blanket too! There are some really lovely blankets out there too so you could treat yourself to one that you love and use it all winter!
Exclude any Draft Possible
Keeping out the cold air is definitely something that you should be taking steps to do – closing windows and making sure that you use draft excludes where possible is recommended. Keeping curtains closed where possible is also a wise idea; however, be wary that you do also need some natural light so don’t keep them closed all day. Closing them during the night especially in rooms that you aren’t using is recommended.
Make The Most of Any Heat You Do Create
If you do need to put on the heating then make sure you make the most of this – for example closing internal doors and ensuring that you aren’t wasting heat unnecessarily. Making sure that you also turn off the heating in any rooms that you are;t using is recommended too. If you have a guest room then turning off the radiator in this room and closing the door so heat isn’t wasted helps to ensure that the heat you are generating is as effective as possible.
