It’s the shortest day today; which means that lighter evenings are coming – and if you ask us, that’s a reason to be happy! With Christmas a mere few days away you might well be wondering how you can make it happen, especially if funds are tight! Here are some ways to have some Christmas fun on a budget.
Christmas Dinner
It is easy to get carried away with worrying about Christmas dinner, but really it’s just a glorified Sunday roast so don’t panic! Whatever meat you want works, whatever is on offer even better! Just remember to get the most out of your meat to ensure you get the best value for money – boxing day curry or sandwiches anyone? Most of the supermarkets are doing 19p bags of vegetables this year, so grab some of those to get things started. A cheap bag of frozen Yorkshires and a box of stuffing mix and you’re well on your way to having an amazing Christmas feast!
Christmas Presents
You might have done all of your Christmas gift shopping by now, but if you haven’t then places like Primark already have loads of reductions so a wander around there could be in order. For younger children, there is absolutely no harm in getting some toys from the charity shop to wrap for the big day. We all know that children grow out of toys and trends quickly, so you might even find some charity shop items that are barely used. For friends, create some vouchers – 5 nights free babysitting, a movie night in etc.
Christmas Entertainment
Christmas day entertainment is easy, kids will be caught up in their new gifts and eating their body weight in Christmas chocolates (make your own selection boxes, it works out cheaper and you can get each child the exact sweets they like). However, why not arrange a Christmas afternoon walk – you could even arrange to meet up with some friends and family while you’re there! Get the TV guide sorted and plan a Christmas afternoon movie for when you get home – blankets, hot chocolate and a Christmas movie is the perfect way to finish off a Christmas afternoon
Remember, whether you need to arrange Christmas fun on a budget or not the day is about having fun and spending time with your loved ones; and let’s face it after the last couple of years we could all benefit from more of that!
